What Did Jimmy Say?

Ummmh…..yeah…well,…about that!….

(This post originally appeared in March of 2010 so the reference to Peter’s whereabouts at the Gasparilla is no longer accurate)

This is one of those ‘right place, right time’ pictures. Not that I didn’t PLACE myself at the right place and right time….but, there’s still a certain element of ..not luck, exactly….maybe fortunate preparedness….

Chef Peter Timmins, CMC, was the executive Chef at the Greenbrier Resort when we were in the middle of a cookbook project for the Resort. Jimmy ‘O’, who has worked at the resort for over 50 years as a Maitre ‘D, (you think HE doesn’t have some stories?) wandered into the set as we were finishing a dish. Peter said, “Randy, I want some pictures with Jimmy. Where do you want us?” I found a table in front of a large window and they sat, ate the dish that Eric Adkins had just photographed, and talked, and I shot….nice soft window light, camera hand-held…piece of cake….well, no, actually, I think it was seafood..

Jimmy is a ‘hoot’!..as if Peter is NOT?  With two personalities such as these, it’s sometimes hard to remember what I’m doing and not get caught up in their camaraderie.  I’m just glad I remembered to click the shutter before I fell to the floor….

So, what did Jimmy say?

Here’s how to find out…..maybe

Chef Timmins is now at the Gasparilla Inn in Boca Grande, FL. http://www.the-gasparilla-inn.com

Call there and make dinner reservations. (Chef is an Irishman, through and through,  so you might want to wait until AFTER the 18th….you know…St Paddy’s, and all…)

After dinner, have your waiter bring Chef T to your table, and ask HIM,

“What did Jimmy say?”

He MIGHT tell you, but then again, he may just

“…slap you in the belly with a wet kipper!”

  1. Nicely done Randy. The old school Maitre De’s are a vanishing breed.
